Learn all about Roman, and Italian, food and what makes it so great! We’ll take you to visit a local market where you can talk with vendors and learn about the seasons of Italian food. We will also visit a favorite meat & cheese store to sample some of their specialties. We’ll also get to enter a pizzeria before opening time where you get to roll your own pizza dough, choose your own toppings, and slide it into a wood-burning oven, then just sit back and wait for a bit. Soon afterwards, you will be enjoying the fruits of your labor, along with enjoying the best coffee in Rome!

You will also learn the tricks to finding the best places to eat in Italy, and how to create that same magic once you’re back at home. We don’t just taste Italian food on this tour, we seek to really understand it – you will get fully immersed in Italian cuisine!




Start your journey of Italian foods in one of Romes’s most popular piazzas: Campo de’Fiori. You will learn how to pick your produce like the local pros. You will also learn which foods are in season at the time, and why that matters so much to Italians and to the local farmers. Your expert local guide will also introduce you to the family that has run a piazza for more than a century. They offer their own homemade balsamic vinegar and olive oils, which you will get to sample. You will also get to taste the different cheeses, including prosciutto crudo or cotto, and parmesan or pecorino, and you’ll also learn why parmesan is no automatically offered with every pasta dish.


Now the fun really begins when you get to visit a local Italian restaurant and make your own personal pizza. The dough is pre-made for you, because that takes a while, but you’ll get to roll it, add your own toppings and personally slide it in a large wood-burning pizza oven, the same way it’s been done for hundreds of years. As you go through this process you will learn how pizza differs from not only outside of Italy, but from region to region within Italy as well. Do you know what pizza with peperoni means? You’ll find out. When you pizza is ready, you can enjoy your masterpiece pizza with the best coffee (caffè) in Rome, and what makes the Italian style distinctive!


With our true small groups, the Rome Food Tour is more like that casual outing with friends than a traditional tour. Chances are you will all be friends by the end of this adventure. You can more closely engage with your guide as they teach you what you should eat in Rome, and where to eat it. You’ll also learn tips on how to find the best restaurants when traveling on your own in Italy. You’ll be able to spot a touristy restaurant from an authentic one a mile away.
